The centre hole was a breath of fresh air in the DA series. The centre of the pad is the least efficient part of the pad; there is no rotational speed during operation. Eliminating the unproductive part of the pad has many advantages. It dissipates heat from the pad which limits excessive overheating of the polishing pad and acts as a protection against machine overheating. When polishing with DA pads, the compound does not accumulate in the central area. Because of this, there is less risk of re-spreading the accumulated compound and polishing residue. As a result, it is easier and more efficient to work with a pad that is not subject to the compound clumping up.
Beige foam/SWAP.
Open-cell foam.
Fast Cutting/Polishing.
SWAP foam changes its properties when exposed to heat. This means that its hardness depends on temperature to a great extent. Before the work begins, the foam is very hard to the touch, but as soon as it is warmed up, it softens. Up to a certain level, of course. The foam becomes so soft that it is recommended to use it for cutting and polishing. Keep in mind that when working in a high temperature range, you get a high level of finish. The downside of SWAP foam is a quick change in colour (the foam quickly turns yellow when exposed to UV rays). However, the change in colour of the foam does not have any effect on its properties, it is just a visual issue.
